Head shot

“And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?”

Luke 24 is my favorite passage in the Bible (as it much as it pains me to have a favorite) because I’ve always wanted to experience the story firsthand of Jesus and the two disciples on the road to Emmaus. The story is even more intriguing because we do not know what Jesus specifically said to them but we do know that it was the greatest of survey courses on the Bible. I have a picture in my mind of those guys hiking on a warm day and having a special time of being able to talk and bond with each other. Jesus is sharing insights with them that make them feel like they weren’t reading the same scriptures. And I believe I know that feeling they described, the burning in their hearts.

This blog is about doing a heart-burning study of the Bible. I believe that the Holy Spirit reveals to us now the same things that Jesus shared with His disciples. We have the privilege of being just as stirred up as those two men walking with Jesus. Our time reading and studying the Bible should leave us awestruck every time.
